Chance to learn more about responsible dog sledding

In recent years, the County Administrative Board of Norrbotten has had several serious inspection cases linked to dog sledding companies. Because of this, the Swedish Lapland Visitors Board wants to contribute to increasing the knowledge of both entrepreneurs and clients. On September 12, we will hold the first webinar in the course Responsible dog sledding business.

“We know that dog sledding is one of our most popular activities in this region. It is a big part of the overall guest experience. Therefore, we think it is extra important that guests who come here can feel safe and take part in experiences that are safe both for themselves, but also for the dogs”, says Malin Jonsson, Business Development Coordinator, Swedish Lapland Visitors Board.

The introductory webinar on September 12 is an information session where the County Administrative Board of Norrbotten talks about current laws, rules and controls.

“Running a business with draft dogs can be complex and requires a great deal of knowledge and insight into how Swedish legislation works. We hope that this information session will contribute to more people applying for permits with us and that we will notice fewer shortcomings in the operations in the future, as we all work for the good of the dog”, says Helen Svensson, Animal Welfare Officer at the County Administrative Board.

This is a great opportunity for those who want to know more about the rules and laws related to dog sledding.

On September 26th, it’s time for the second webinar together with dog walking entrepreneur Ylva Forssén at Husky Home and tour operator Kon-Tiki Tours. Ylva will tell you more about how increased welfare can give both you and your dogs a better life, and also increase the profitability of your business. Kon-Tiki Tours will talk about how they work with animal welfare issues, how they choose suppliers and what trends they see in guests and retailers right now.

Both webinars are given in English and can be viewed afterwards for those who are connected to our learning platform. The course is aimed at those who are dog sledding entrepreneurs, work as a guide or mediate and sell dog sledding as an activity.
