Autumn-themed study tour – inspiring for businesses looking to extend the season

In September, the Swedish Lapland Visitors Board organized a study trip with the autumn season in focus. It was an excited group of tourism companies that took the opportunity to travel to Abisko to discuss the opportunities and challenges of the fall season.

– “We know that many tourism companies want to develop their fall season and this trip gave them the opportunity to meet others in the same situation. Some have come further than others and by meeting, companies get the chance to inspire each other and contribute with their own experiences, says Niklas Wede, Business Developer Swedish Lapland Visitors Board.

– Extending the season with a focus on autumn is an important work, partly to generate more guests to our tourism businesses, but also to spread the guests more evenly over the year.

Workshops, talks, company visits and site analysis were on the schedule during the three days of the study trip. One entrepreneur on site was Malin Nilsson, destination manager at Storklinten:

– As someone who has longed for physical meetings, I appreciated the trip very much. I wanted to participate mainly to network and be inspired. The absolute best thing we can do is to visit and “experience” each other regardless of the theme. Something positive always comes out of it. I hope that more people see the value of taking the time to participate, then it will be even better!

Åsa Säfström from Outback Abisko was both a participant and part of the program, she was very happy with the trip:

– Great group with a lot of experience. High ceilings and dialogs and discussions across the board. Proud to showcase our area!” says Åsa.

Malin Jonsson, Business Development Coordinator at the Swedish Lapland Visitors Board, was involved in arranging the trip and is pleased with how the program turned out.

– We got a good mix of knowledge, conversations and insights. The companies that participated are already working with the fall but want to develop it even more. Together, in the network created during the trip, we got really good days with study visits, great conversations and workshops.
